New Way Maker on the South West Coast Path: Find Us in Barnstaple

Our Barnstaple takeaway is now officially listed as a South West Coast Path Waymarker.

The South West Coast Path is one of the most iconic walking routes in the UK. Stretching 630 miles along the edges of cliffs, estuaries, beaches and villages. And with more walkers than ever taking on the trail, partly thanks to the release of The Salt Path in cinemas, it's become a true pilgrimage for outdoor lovers. We're proud to now have not one but two locations supporting the journey: our restaurant in Westward Ho! and now our Barnstaple takeaway, which has just become an official South West Coast Path Way Marker.

“We’ve always loved what the South West Coast Path brings to this part of the world. It gets people outside, brings visitors to North Devon, and shows off some of the best bits of our landscape. Becoming Waymarkers at both our sites is our way of supporting that — and saying thank you.”
– Alysa Freeman, Marketing Manager

Walkers Welcome in Barnstaple

Our Barnstaple site is tucked just off the trail where the path joins the Tarka Trail and follows the River Taw. You’ll spot our flags as you turn off the estuary near Pottington — just a five-minute walk up Pilland Way. We’re open from 4pm daily, with benches outside, cold drinks, and proper pizza to power your next stretch.

Did you know? The Tarka Trail between Braunton and Barnstaple is one of the most accessible sections of the entire South West Coast Path — smooth, flat and suitable for both wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Most of the walkers we meet are doing the path in stages, taking on shorter sections like Braunton to Barnstaple, or picking up the trail for an afternoon stroll. Having a reliable, high-quality food stop near the route helps bring those journeys together. We’re proud to be part of that rhythm now, in a spot that’s easy to access.

Our Place on the Path

We’ve supported the South West Coast Path charity as a Waymarker for over 18 months in Westward Ho!, where we’re also an official passport stamping point. That makes us one of very few businesses with two recognised stops on the path and we’re proud to play a small part in helping walkers find food and plan their route with confidence.

Our passport stamp at Westward Ho! is ready for any trail-goers collecting the full set.

Both our locations are independently run, and everything we do is built on care, community and flavour. Being listed as a Way maker helps us give something back to a trail that brings so much to the area and helps more people find their way to great food and a warm welcome.

Award-Winning Pizza, Wherever You’re Walking

We serve award-winning, slow-fermented dough across both sites — crafted over time for maximum flavour and texture. Our vegan pizzas use the same long-fermented base, while our gluten-free pizzas are made with an alternative base that’s cooked fresh to order. We are open daily from 12:00 in Westward Ho! offering great lunchtime specials as well as garlic bread brushed with caramelised garlic oil, house-made dips, and plenty of cold drinks to choose from, everything you need after a day on your feet.

“We’ve met so many brilliant people on the path over the years — from long-distance hikers to Sunday strollers. If we can play even a small part in powering their journey, we’re doing our job right.”
– Rachel Hickins, Co-owner

And if you’re staying locally this summer, we deliver too. One of our kitchens covers anywhere along the route between Chivenor and Westward Ho!, including Instow, Fremington, Bideford and Appledore. Whether you’re in a holiday let, campsite or guest house, we’ll bring the pizza to you.

Order directly and earn loyalty points with every purchase and they never expire, so it’s always worth signing up if you’re walking the path regularly or coming back through the area later in the year.

So whether you’re hiking from Braunton, biking the Tarka Trail or just looking for good food near the South West Coast Path, save us to your map. It’s simple, satisfying, and full of flavour — just how we like it.
